Joseph E. Donat
Joseph E. Donat joined Cornell Grace as Senior Counsel in January 2017. First admitted to practice in 1975, Mr. Donat is known for his extremely high level of ethics and professionalism, having tried numerous cases in the State Courts of New York, as well as the Federal Courts for New York’s Southern and Eastern Districts, where he also serves as a court-appointed mediator. His broad-based practice includes the defense of product liability, construction, maritime and other cases.
Mr. Donat most recently served for more than two decades as a litigation partner at a large, well-respected New York City firm. Prior to that, Mr. Donat headed the maritime department of a New York City boutique litigation firm.
Mr. Donat brings his wealth of experience in trials, mediation and real-world litigation practice to Cornell Grace, where he will continue to represent clients in a full array of litigated matters.

Mr. Donat has been certified as a Proctor in Admiralty by the United States Maritime Law Association, and has received the highest “AV” rating issued by Martindale Hubble, which equates to a “preeminent” rating that indicates “the highest level of legal ability and ethics.”
